The Effects Of Steroids On The Body: An Overview

steroids

Muscle building and growth take consistency and perseverance. You cannot expect your muscle to build up overnight just by doing nothing. One thing that would never remain constant is the decline in muscle mass as you age, which is why you could at some point turn to the help of anabolic steroids. An example of this steroid is stanozolol.

You may have heard of anabolic steroids before, either while going through notes or just surfing the internet for insight on muscle builders. In this article, we would be discussing them.

What are steroids?

Steroids are biologically active organic compounds, man-made chemicals also known as hormones designed to imitate that which is naturally in the human body.

They are synthetic drugs and mostly, and they are misused, especially the anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS), which is what we would be discussing in this article.

Anabolic androgenic steroids are known to copy the effects of the male hormone, testosterone and in another context, it is used to build muscles or increase strength. This is exactly what leads to its misuse.

Steroids, when taken in larger doses than the body normally produces, reduce redness and smell, or as we all would like to call it, inflammation.

When they are used in muscle building, they do so by increasing protein production and inhibiting the breakdown of proteins in muscle cells after a workout. As said earlier, anabolic steroids are used to cause a significant increase in the mass of the muscle.

In some cases, they have been used in the treatment of skin problems like eczema, and they are also used in the management of asthma.

Steroids are also effective in reducing the activity of the immune system, the body’s natural defence against illness and infection.

How effective are anabolic steroids?

They are quite effective and many have been using them for a long period. Anabolic steroids can be used to induce muscle growth, especially in athletes. They aid the muscle bulk which I usually have in response to training by imitating the effect the naturally produced testosterone has in the body.

These anabolic steroids can be in the body anywhere, lasting from about a couple of days to weeks and a year.
